The Catholic News Service reports that the political situation in Lebanon is tense and that the country's bishops fear that Lebanon is on the verge of a political collapse if a new president is not elected soon. According to the country's constitution, the president of Lebanon must be a Catholic of the Maronite Rite. (Maronite Catholics make up 40% of the population; they made up well over half of the population before the Lebanese Civil War.) Much of the tension has been due to the recent assassination of a Maronite MP and five others after a bomb exploded in a Maronite neighborhood of Beyrouth on September 19. This atrocity adds to the already existing tension after last year's brief war with the Zionist nation state and the assassination of Pierre Gemayel, former Minister of Industry and member of Lebanon's leading political family. The full stories can be read here: Anger, unease permeate Lebanon after assassination of politician and Lebanese bishops call for coöperation, say country verges on collapse

It makes me mad the way the Middle East's Christians are constantly undermined by many of the Evangelical bodies in their blind support for Israel.
Me too! Serge's Blog ("A Conservative Blog for Peace") has frequent postings about this and has been very informative to the blogosphere on this issue.

Shocking! Even with the bias against Israel in the BBC, I don't think I've come across this before.
It makes you realize just how radical Christianity is compared to other religions. Real Christianity is a religion of love; Orthodox (Pharasaical) Judaism is not. Is it any wonder why the Jews killed Christ?
