Maurice Pinay's self-titled pseudonymous blog brought to my attention an article from Rome's Zenit News Service. The Israeli government has stopped issuing quick, routine, re-entry visas to Arab Christian clergy who wish to travel in and out of occupied Palestinian territories. They now have to apply for re-entry visas at the local Israeli consulate every time they travel outside of the occupied territories, which often results in months of bureaucratic 'red tape'. This means that the clergy will no longer be able to move easily among parishes under their charge. Seeing as a priest often has to oversee several parishes all throughout the region, including in neighboring Arab countries, the faithful will now be left without the sacraments for very extended periods of time. This is disgraceful! But it does not surprise me considering the people behind this. The full article can be read here: Israel Tightens Policy on Re-entry Visas"I know, it is disagreeable to see the Turks in possession of our Holy Places. We simply have to put up with it. But to sanction the Jewish wish to occupy these sites, that we cannot do... The Jews have not recognized our Lord, therefore we cannot recognize the Jewish people... If you go to Palestine and your people settle there, you will find us clergy and churches ready to baptize you all."

How true those words of St. Pius X should ring today!
